The Importance of Calcium in Anti Aging and Beyond.

Calcium is vital in health and anti aging for women, men and children. It is puzzling that although the benefits and necessity of calcium is widely known, most people only get half the amount of calcium that they need.

It is widely known that osteoporosis, the degeneration of our bones, is one of the top killers of women. Surprisingly, though, it affects many men, as well. Less than 50% of children in the United States alone get the recommended dietary allowance of calcium. The infusion of calcium in the diet needs to start at an early age so the bone mass can be maximized at that early age and prevent bone thinning later in life.

The anti aging properties of calcium are less a matter of improving the youthful appearance of your skin and are essential in keeping the body healthy on the inside to provide a youthful quality of life and performance of the body.

The requirements of calcium vary by age and it is imperative the minimums be met. Children 6 to 10 need 800 mg per day; 11-24 year olds need 1200 to 1500 mg per day, while adults 25 and over need 1000 mg per day. Calcium can be found in dairy products, broccoli, tofu, and canned sardines and salmon. A glass of skim milk has 300 mg while a cup of yogurt has 400 mg. This makes it easy for children to obtain their requirements and inexcusable for them to be deficient. A good thing to know is that the level of calcium absorbed is significantly higher when consumed with milk.

The consumption of calcium for adults is most effective when guidelines are followed. A low calcium supplement of 300 to 500 mg is recommended for everyone except those who have a diet rich in high calcium foods. Take your calcium supplements in split doses and drink plenty of water to avoid toxicity, which results in constipation.
