Hearing and Aging – How To Hear More Even When You’re AgingThere is a significant connection between hearing and aging, as it has been noticed that persons begin to hear less as they grow old. About one-third of Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have hearing problems. About half the people who are 85 and older have hearing loss. Age-related hearing loss is called presbycusis. This type of hearing loss results from damage to parts of the inner ear, the auditory nerve, or hearing pathways in the brain. Sometimes, this sort of hearing loss may also be due to problems with blood circulation and is particularly marked among the elderly who have high blood pressure. Loss of hearing with aging progresses very slowly, just like graying of hair. People with complications of hearing and aging find it hard to hear what other people are saying or stand loud sounds. Another form of hearing problem with aging is tinnitus, where affected people may be hearing ringing, roaring or some other noises inside their ears. Tinnitus may also be caused by other factors such as infections, allergies, heart problems and blood circulatory disorders. Progressive loss of hearing and aging are natural phenomena and it cannot be stopped entirely. However, good diets, good mineral and vitamin supplementation, regular use of anti-aging supplements and active lifestyle with some regime of daily exercises can keep circulatory system etc. well-tuned and delay hearing loss due to aging.
