Macular Degeneration and Aging – Now You Can See Even Better


Gradual loss of sharp, central vision due to macular degeneration and aging is quite common. Also known as age-related macular degeneration or AMD, it makes common things such as reading or driving difficult due to vision constraints.

The macula is that part of the eye that enables you to see things in fine detail. The macula degenerates very slowly with age and the effects are hardly felt in the initial stages. Generally, AMD starts with one eye and then progresses to the other eye. AMD can cause loss of vision and it’s the leading cause of loss of vision among Americans of 60 years of age or older.

Macular degeneration can be delayed to a great extent by embracing some common anti-aging solutions. The foremost among them is good dieting. Sugar and fat-rich foods should be avoided. Apart from a balanced mix of carbs, low fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins, lots of fish should be taken, as Omega-3 fatty acids present in a large variety of fishes are very helpful to the eye in preventing macular degeneration. Green vegetables are equally good and they should be consumed in greater quantities to get maximum benefits about better vision plus fiber for better bowel movement.

Another good thing is regular exercising. Exercises improve blood circulation that easily reaches oxygen and other nutrients to various organs of the body including the eyes. This delays the aging-related degenerative process of the macula and you are able to see things clearly and sharply for longer times.
