Anti-aging Properties of Melons

Melons not only are just delicious, they have excellent anti-aging properties as well that make them a top favorite fruit among those who want to look and feel younger for longer. In fact, almost all fruits are good for health. Together with vegetables, they're a wholesome source of vitamins and minerals that are so essential for healthy functioning of the body.

Aging sets in a number of processes inside your body. Your cells begin to decay. Hormone levels change and general immunity begins to decline. That's the time you need more of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients to keep your systems running in good form. Melons are a good source of Vitamins A, B6 and C, minerals such as magnesium, potassium and iron, antioxidants such as lycopene and other key ingredients such as beta-carotene.

The one thing without which it is hardly possible to live younger and healthier is antioxidants. Due to various oxidation processes in the body, free radicals that are produced hit the cells and damage their configuration. This exactly is the starting point of cellular decay and formation of abnormal cells in the body. Aging is usually accompanied by intense free radical activity. Lycopene in melons is an extremely powerful antioxidant that very effectively controls free radical damage in the body. For this particular reason, melons are very good to delay the effects of aging.

It's quite common for the elderly people to be on diets, as the incidence of many health complications such as overweight, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol etc are quite common among them. Melons have fibers and act as excellent fillers. This means, by eating a big serving of melon, you can easily have the sensation of fullness without actually eating a lot of those sugary and fatty stuff. By reducing your calorie intake with the help of melons, you can easily control the symptoms or avert the risk of many serious health hazards that are common with aging
