Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Anti Aging Benefits.


With the majority of the population watching their overall fat intake, it is often that the benefits of essential fatty acids are lost in the need to cut down overall fat intake. The omeg-3 anti aging benefits have been studied for many years and while these fatty acids are beneficial to the anti aging process, they are not naturally occurring in the body and thus need to be consumed through diet and supplementation.

Omega 3 anti-aging benefits are comprised from two forms of fatty acid: DHA and EPA. The most commonly consumed source of omega 3 fatty acids are fish, roasted or ground flax seeds, walnuts, hemp, salmon and spirolina algae.

While you can get the omega 3 anti-aging benefits from various whole grains, the body most efficiently converts the acids consumed in seafood and algae form into usable Omega 3s in the body. As a matter of fact, only a small percentage of all DHA and EPA are converted from the whole grain sources.

Making the Most of Your Omega 3 Anti-aging Benefits

Fortunately, consuming omega 3 fatty acids is simple enough. But, there is healthy balance that needs to take place in the body in order for the omega 3 anti-aging benefits to occur. Along with an increase in the amount of omega 3 fatty acids there needs to be a decrease in the amount of omega 6 fatty acids consumed. Omega 6 fatty acids are often found in dairy products and meat products. The most beneficial ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 in the body is 4 to 1 or lower. But, in most diets in the Western world, the ratio is more likely to fall in the 10 to 1 ratio with some even as high as 30 to 1.

Reducing the amount of omega 6 fatty acids in the body does more than just increase the omega 3 anti-aging benefits; it also decreases the risk of many diseases and depression. When levels of omega 6 fatty acids become too high in the body, the risk of suffering from heart attacks, thrombotic stroke, arrhythmia, arthritis, osteoporosis, inflammation, mood disorders and cancer increase as well. This increase may be linked to the pro-inflammatory state resulting from high omega 6 levels in the body.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Inflammation

Omega 3 anti-aging benefits and reduction in disease risk may be directly linked to cell inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids help to keep the cells healthy and reduce the inflammation that may occur in the cell when omega 6 levels are too high. The most common diseases resulting from a lack of inflammation control include allergies, asthma, arthritis and even more sever conditions of autoimmune nature like lupus.

While all of the omega 3 anti-aging benefits have yet to be discovered, there is little doubt that an increase in omega 3 fatty acids in the body when combined with a decrease in omega 6 fatty acids can help the heart and the life line.
