Prostate Cancer and Aging – Know How To AvoidProstate cancer and aging is a problem that haunts many men in their later lives. In fact, more than 80% of the men diagnosed with prostate cancer are above 65 years of age. The risk of prostate cancer increases with age and nearly 20% of the American men carry the risk of contracting this disease and 4% to die from it. Aging causes the prostate cells to decay and lose their repair and regeneration capacity. Moreover, increased antioxidant activity with age bombards the cells with free radicals and destroys their normal configuration, leading to growth of abnormal cells. The key to living healthy longer and keep antioxidant activity under control is obviously good dieting, good lifestyle, regular exercises, and use of anti-aging and antioxidant supplements. The first important thing about diet is reducing sugar intake and decreasing consumption of fatty foods, and foods rich in trans-fats such as fries and burgers. Proteins provide the cells building materials. So increased protein intake is very important. Many varieties of fish are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that are very much useful for cell nourishment and growth. Smoking and excessive tea, coffee and alcohol drinks should be controlled. Green tea is very good and has excellent anti-aging properties. Antioxidants include Vitamins C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A, selenium and carotenoids. Some of the popular and widely accepted anti aging supplements are: Alpha lipoic acid, Acetyl L-carnitine, Coenzyme Q10, Green tea extracts, Omega 3 Fish Oil, Resveratrol, and Ascorbyl palmitate. All these are very useful in retarding the pace of cellular decay and keep degenerative diseases such as prostate cancer at bay.
