What happens to tattoos as you age?

Tattoos that are a great show on the body usually fade with long-time exposure to sun. Moreover, with aging, weight gain and drooping of skin, tattoos increasingly begin to look out of place and less befitting.

If you want to preserve your tattoos for long, the best way is to control exposure to direct sun. You can have the parts of your body bearing the tattoos covered with clothes when you go out to the sun. You can also use sunscreen lotions as a protective medium to limit the damage to the skin as well as the tattoos from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Sunscreens with SPF more than 15 are usually recommended.

Drooping of skin and appearance of wrinkles are common phenomenon with aging. Tattoos on those parts of the body, such as the abdomen, cheeks, forehead etc tend to get disfigured with drooping of skin and appearance of wrinkles. To keep the tattoos looking good, it is very important that you put the tattoos on those parts of the body, such as the chest, hands and the legs, which have more muscles than skin with underlying layers of fat, and are less likely to droop with aging or develop age-spots and wrinkles.

Another common phenomenon associated with aging is weight gain. Tattoos also get disfigured with accumulation of fat underneath the skin where the tattoos appear. The best way to keep the tattoos fine and showing is to avoid weight gain. Diet control, healthy lifestyle and regular exercising are the best ways to put off weight gain.
